Tarrik Kennedy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Environmental Science, with a strong emphasis on computer-based studies. His expertise includes geographic information systems (GIS), environmental modelling, and the analysis of remote imagery. He aims to leverage his skills to support organisations in their sustainability initiatives and drive meaningful impact.

The Power Hub was founded with the mission of addressing the need for carbon reduction strategies. Our approach is to provide tailored strategies with ongoing support for organisations. We have expertise in electrical engineering, ISO management, modelling and software development.

Tarrik took some time to speak about his involvement in the PowerPath project…

Why did your company join the PowerPath project?

The Power Hub joined the project in Madagascar to address the pressing challenge of energy access in rural communities. We hope to gain support through collaboration, access to resources, and expertise from our partners, to gain greater understanding of the challenges these communities face and do our best to provide some form of beneficial impact.

How do you hope your company will benefit from participating in the project and its outcomes?

In my role on the project, I am conducting a field study to complete an impact assessment report at the end of the initiative. This involves engaging with communities to collect data on their energy needs and the challenges they face. My vision is to ensure the assessment measures the effectiveness of our efforts while highlighting community voices.

I hope that by participating in the project, we will benefit from forging partnerships with other organisations. This collaboration can lead to knowledge exchange, capacity building, and potential future projects whilst engaging with diverse stakeholders will enhance our understanding of community needs and innovative solutions.

How do these challenges relate to the expectations of the UK Industrial Policy?

Firstly, we’re focused on sustainability and climate goals by promoting renewable energy in rural Madagascar, which supports the global effort to reduce carbon emissions.

Second, enhancing energy access directly contributes to energy security, creating more stable systems. Third, our project empowers local communities, which aligns with the EU and UK’s aim to support developing economies and improve living standards. Lastly, we’re seeking innovative partnerships with international organisations to effectively address infrastructure development challenges.

The Power Hub are open to participating in future funded programmes if the opportunity arises and aligns with our goals. If we believe in the purpose of the project and it fits within our mission, we would be eager to explore how additional funding could help us address ongoing challenges.

How is your experience in R&D and engineering informing your current work within the project?

While I don't have a formal background in engineering, my experience in R&D is crucial to my current work on this project. My focus is on understanding the needs and wants of the communities we are working with. By gaining insights directly from local people who will be directly affected by developments we are able to ensure that the solutions implemented are tailored effectively.
