Loussouf has been a customer of Nanoé since June 2017. Hailing from Ambihomena in the Ambanja district of Madagascar, he has been an educator since 1993 and dedicated a great part of his life to the community. From 2000 to 2024, he was the mayor of the Ambohimena rural municipality, and he also acted as regional councillor from 2006 to 2009.

In parallel to his public functions, he is also a farmer and grows products for private income such as cocoa, vanilla and coffee, which are the main farming resources of the region. His expertise spans several years of experience at the plantation and crop growing. His agricultural activity is the main source of income for his family and contributes to the local economic development of the community.

What are your areas of interest ?

My areas of interest lie around education, sustainable farming and community development. I am equally interested in rural innovation, such as electricity access, which can improve living conditions in remote areas.

Why did you join the PowerPath project?

My household decided to participate in Nanoé’s PowerPath project in order to meet an essential need; access to a reliable, sustainable and affordable electricity source. Before this project, we were facing several difficulties related to electricity scarcity; the inability to properly light up at night, to use basic electric appliances, the lack of security and, above all, a clear limitation to the conduct of our economic activities.

As a farmer and father, these issues were having a direct impact on my family, my children’s schooling and my work. Moreover, the lack of energy was limiting transformation and conservation opportunities for farming produce, which was decreasing our income.

By joining this project, we have identified an opportunity to improve our living conditions, to reinforce our energetic independence and to create an environment that is more conducive to local economic development.

Nanoé’s PowerPath project brought us a bespoke solution to rural living conditions, which helps us take up these challenges in a sustainable way.

How do you hope you will benefit from participating in the project and its outcomes?

By participating in this project, I wanted my household to benefit from sustainable electricity access in order to improve my family’s daily living standards and our home security. Electricity enables children to study in good conditions at night and makes our life easier regarding basic tasks such as lighting, cell phone charging, and the use of household appliances.

On the economic front, I hope that energy access will allow me to better develop my farming activity, particularly by helping the transformation or maintenance of my crops such as cocoa, vanilla or coffee. It would improve harvest quality, reduce waste and augment my earnings.

Lastly, I wish that project results could inspire other households in my town to take part in sustainable energy solutions and that together we could contribute to the development of our community.
